Does Miss Universe need to have long hair?

By: ROZZ Editorial

The Miss Universe pageant would not be complete without some form of controversy and the 63rd annual Miss Universe Pageant held in Miami did not disappoint! First place went to Miss Colombia, Paulina Vega while first runner-up was Miss USA, Nia Sanchez. Coming in third was Miss Ukraine, Diana Harkusha. Miss Netherlands, Yasmin Verheijen, took the fourth spot as third runner-up. Rounding out the top 5 was Miss Jamaica, Kaci Fennell, who many feel should have taken the top spot.

Many boos were heard from the crowd on Sunday January 25th when Miss Colombia, Paulina Vega, 22, was crowned Miss Universe 2014. Since then, Facebook and Twitter have rallied around Miss Jamaica, Kaci Fennell, who was a favourite to win but placed fifth.

Miss Jamaica's father, Michael Fennell believes that his beauty queen daughter deserved the crown and lost due to "unwritten factors" and that the judges should have stated outright if it was a requirement for Miss Universe to have long hair. He said: "If short hair is a problem why didn't they say so in the contest?"

In an interview with E! News, the gracious Miss Fennell was quoted saying "I believe it went exactly how it should."

Kaci Fennell, Miss Jamaica Universe 2014, was born in Kingston in 1992.

Kaci has a passion for cooking and helping teach special-needs children and she also works with the Jamaican charity, Style For Change, which assists Jamaican communities in need as a result of poverty and natural disasters.

Fennell is very confident and loves her sexy and edgy short hairstyle, which has many tongues wagging about the "old-fashioned" preferences of the Miss Universe Organisation.

What makes us beautiful?

Was "unstated and unclear" judging citeria the reason for Miss Jamaica losing the 2014 title? Typically, competitors who have naturally short hair always tend to wear extensions to achieve a flowing mane for the competition. But is this merely a preference or is it an unstated requirement based on a stereotype of what a beauty queen should look like? In the history of the Miss Universe Pageant, how many winners have had short hair? Very easy...NONE, zero, zilch! [Source: http://www.missuniverse.com/contestant_profiles/past

The Miss Universe Organisation has never stipulated that hair must be a certain length but yet in 63 years there has never been a winner wth short hair.

Miss Universe 2013 had a slew of contestants with short hair but like Kaci Fennell, none were able to take the title.
