Vancouver Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014

MEET THE DESIGNERS

HONG KIYOUNG

Website: http://www.hongkiyoung.com/

Hong Kiyoung is an innovative designer from Seoul, South Korea. For Vancouver Fashion week he presented a more sophisticated collection which is slightly different from his previous, more causal clothing.

I especially liked his male designs because they were edgy and give men something to look forward to. The combination of jacket and shorts for the women was sexy and trendy.

NINA TAN

This fashion designer's real name is Stephanie Hung and she was born and raised in Vancouver BC where she launched her label under the name Nina Tan. Her collection for Vancouver Fashion Week was described as "whimsical" and had the feeling of a fairy-tale.

"I am usually inspired by my two muses Nina and Tanya. Their characteristics are reflected in my collection. Nina is always cool and collected where as Tanya is full of color and extremely spontaneous. Besides Nina and Tanya I was also inspired by several things. I was inspired by the sixties, a rainbow, a really pretty high tea restaurant down at w.4th. All in all this collection is a memory of what I have seen and been for the past few months".

VIVID HAIKU MEROE

Website: Coming soon

To say this designer is talented is an understatement. Her collection for Vancouver Fashion week was based on flowers and brought a sense of joy to both the patrons and the models. She was quoted as saying "I love all types of flowers so I wanted to create a line based on of the feminity and beauty of a flower".

Now that Fashion Week is over it's on to the next show for this very creative designer.

KAYE MORALES

In her own words, Kaye's collection was "inspired by debauchery and it's a reflection of pain, torture and suffering. I wanted to turn nightmares into something beautiful by creating different presentations of torture in all my pieces by using out of the norms fabrics and draping."

This was by no means a dull collection and whether we wanted to admit it or not, we could all relate to it in some way or the other. After all, fashion is expression and the beauty of her collection shone through. That's a testament to Kaye's artistic talent and vision.
